Overview

Heritage Open Days is England's largest festival of history and culture. To get involved, on Saturday 12 September, spend the day discovering the people and stories within our walls.

Activities include

  • A free guided walk, starting at midday from The Brookwood Cemetery Society lodge. Volunteer tour guide, Kim Lowe, will highlight the graves of individuals associated with brands, inventions and sporting traditions that have become part of our everyday lives.
  • Refreshments at The Brookwood Cemetery Society lodge.
  • Self-guided trails of notable graves and listed monuments.
  • Designated grass picnic areas near The Brookwood Cemetery Society lodge.
  • A rare peek inside some of our historic mausoleums. The doors will be open allowing you to see what lies beyond their protective gates.
  • Entry into our iconic Columbarium. A volunteer guide will be on hand to tell you about its history and architectural features.

Getting to The Brookwood Cemetery Society lodge

The Brookwood Cemetery Society lodge is in the south cemetery, near the cemetery office (What3words: ///skin.reject.chairs)

Use the turning off Cemetery Pales signposted 'cemetery office'. Parking and toilets available on site.

Please note

Dogs are not allowed in the main civilian cemeteries (north and south cemeteries). This is to ensure the cemetery remains a place of peace and tranquillity for all visitors, especially the bereaved. The site also has a wealth of wildlife interest, including deer, which we are keen to protect.
