Overview
Heritage Open Days celebrates England's everyday histories and this year's theme is finding the extraordinary in the ordinary.
The country's largest festival of history and culture returns 11 to 20 September 2026 and to encourage residents to discover the delights on their doorstep, we are hosting a day of free family-friendly activities on Saturday 12 September across Brookwood's military and civilian cemeteries.
Activities will include:
- Free guided walks
- Refreshments at The Brookwood Cemetery Society lodge
- Self-guided trails
- Designated grass picnic areas near The Brookwood Cemetery Society lodge
- A rare peek inside some of our historic mausoleums. The doors will be open allowing you to see what lies beyond their protective gates
Getting to The Brookwood Cemetery Society lodge
The Brookwood Cemetery Society lodge is in the south cemetery, near the cemetery office (What3words: ///skin.reject.chairs)
Use the turning off Cemetery Pales signposted 'cemetery office'. Parking and toilets available on site.
Please note
Dogs are not allowed in the main civilian cemeteries (north and south cemeteries). This is to ensure the cemetery remains a place of peace and tranquillity for all visitors, especially the bereaved. The site also has a wealth of wildlife interest, including deer, which we are keen to protect.
