Filming and photography

To preserve the dignity, privacy, and peaceful atmosphere of our cemetery, all photography and filming activities are subject to permission and must comply with the conditions outlined below.

Private property

Brookwood Cemetery is publicly accessible but privately owned by Brookwood Park Limited. Access for photography, filming, commercial productions, media projects, and drone operations is permitted only with prior authorisation.

Many of the graves, monuments and mausolea within the cemetery are also privately owned and permission from the family may be required prior to any filming or photography.

Personal photography

Visitors may take photographs of family memorials or graves for personal and non-commercial use, provided that:

    • photography is conducted respectfully and discreetly
    • other visitors, mourners, and funeral services are not disturbed
    • no photographs are taken of individuals without their consent
    • images of unrelated graves or memorials are avoided where possible

Professional and commercial photography

Professional photography, commercial shoots, advertising, media productions, documentaries, music videos, and similar projects require written permission before any filming or photography takes place.

Applications should include:

    • name of the individual, company, or organisation
    • purpose of the photography or filming
    • date and time requested
    • number of people attending
    • equipment to be used.

A location fee may apply depending on the nature and scale of the project. We work with Area 4 to manage larger filming requests.

Funerals and memorial services

Photography or filming of funerals, memorial services, mourners, or visitors is strictly prohibited unless expressly authorised by both the cemetery management and the families concerned.

Drone operations

The use of drones or any unmanned aircraft is prohibited without prior written consent. Any approved drone activity must comply with Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulations and all applicable UK laws.

Privacy and data protection

Anyone conducting photography or filming must comply with applicable privacy and data protection requirements, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) where relevant. Visitors should respect the privacy of mourners and avoid capturing identifiable individuals without permission.

Cemetery management rights

The cemetery reserves the rights to:

    • refuse or revoke photography and filming permission
    • restrict access to certain areas
    • require proof of insurance for commercial projects
    • ask any person to cease photography or filming if it is considered inappropriate or disruptive.

Request permission

To apply for photography or filming permission, please contact the cemetery office with full details of your proposed activity.

Requests should be submitted well in advance of the intended date.
