On the day of burial, our team will help ensure your arrangements run smoothly and that you achieve a fitting and peaceful farewell to your loved one.
Graves, vaults and mausolea will be prepared in advance by our team or nominated agent.
Arrival
Brookwood Cemetery is the largest cemetery in the UK and has three main entrances (North Cemetery, South Cemetery and Cemetery Office). Please ensure all relevant parties know the agreed meeting point, access, and parking arrangements.
At the graveside
Your funeral director will lead the interment however a member of our team will be present as a witness and to provide any assistance.
Covering the grave
Placing a handful of soil on a coffin is a widespread custom symbolising both respect for the deceased and our connection to the earth. We embrace this custom at Brookwood Cemetery and can provide a soil box when notified in advance.
There is no requirement to backfill the grave unless you expressly wish to do so. Our team will do this for you and complete the surrounding landscaping.
Laying wreaths and flowers
Floral tributes made from natural, loose-cut flowers may be placed on grave sites at any time. Please ensure all paper, cellophane, plastic wrappings, and ties are removed before placing the flowers.
Wilted flowers will be removed from burial plots as and when necessary, along with their associated pots, vases, or floral foam (oasis) support. This is to preserve the character of the cemetery, maintain its natural beauty and protect the local wildlife.
Chapel hire
Brookwood Cemetery chapel is located on the north side of the cemetery (Plot 124) and is available for interdenominational (multi-faith) use.
It has seating for up to 30 guests and religious symbols may be added or removed.
The chapel is suitable for private services and memorials or can be used as a convenient meeting place to host friends and family before or after a burial.
There is parking nearby and toilet facilities. Contact the Cemetery Office to check availability and hire charges.
