London Parishes & Churches known to have used Brookwood Cemetery

This list is not necessarily exhaustive, but may help you decide whether or not to approach us for a search.

Links with London parishes developed through contracts with the Poor Law Guardians for the burial of the poor usually, but not exclusively, those who died in the workhouse or infirmary. Some London parishes decided to have ground set aside for their dead at Brookwood, but most did not adopt this option.

Other links developed due to the removal and reburial of human remains from the churchyard or crypt to Brookwood Cemetery. There were many reasons for these removals: the insanitary state of the crypt or churchyard, the need to use the space in the crypt, or "metropolitan improvements" such as railway and road construction. Please note that the Cemetery Office usually holds no information concerning the names of those removed to Brookwood. These records are usually held by the parish or the London Metropolitan Archive.
